About me

vertpanl1I am currently employed as senior flash developer for an e-learning content provider to the corporate and government sectors. I have been with my current employer for two years. Previously, I enjoyed a senior flash developer role for four years with CSIRO publishing, producing flash based education courses for primary to high school students. Prior to the CSIRO I was employed with Adacel Technologies as a multimedia developer for another four years.

Over the last 10 years I’ve produced multimedia content, videos, cd-roms and standard websites for clients such as the National Australia Bank, Aon Life Insurance, JobFind Network, The Learning Federation, CSIRO, CGU, Vodaphone, Transport Accident Commission, St John Ambulance, Target, Westpac and even enjoyed an award or two for projects I’ve been involved in.

I’ve been coding in Flash from Flash 5 to Flash 10, have scripted in Actionscript 1, 2 and now 3 and have produced numerous HTML only websites including the latest html/php based website for the Dept. of Health and Safety which required strict WC3 to the point the website had to work with no javascript or no css. That was fun …

Recently I have been developing video and audio driven websites using xml scripted characters with lip synced audio. In one course, involving nearly 40 hours of content, I was lead developer of the shell/framework with content being produced offshore in India (20 screens arriving for review each morning) with nearly 15+ local graphic designers producing artwork. All this streamed my way. The project was a success and we have since won an award.

My skill set is entirely self taught, helps having worked in technical bookshops in my early days, and covers a wide range of applications and technologies. Ongoing self education is always priority.

Complementary skills in the tools of video production, compositing, audio editing, 3D design/animation 2D tools and DVD creation are also flexed from time to time and I enjoyed occasional camera work for the CSIRO video unit, and occasionally my own independent video productions for external client websites.

Working extremely well with Instructional and Graphic designers, I believe I am team player with a real interest in sharing ideas and new techniques. I have mentored junior and graduate programmers, worked in teams from 2 to 50+ people and have been involved with all stages of the software development cycle from documentation to delivery.

On the home front I live in West Footscray, Melbourne Australia with my wife and one year old son. We have two adopted greyhounds, another older kelpie and 30 fish. We are about to start renovations on our place soon to make room for all these guys.
